BRAZIL: Government seeks support of agribusiness sector
Agrishow, one of the largest trade fairs for the agribusiness sector in Brazil, began on 28 April. The opening ceremony of the fair was attended by several members of the left-of-centre government led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, including the agriculture minister, Carlos Fávaro, and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin. Last year the fair’s organisers did not invite officials from the Lula administration, instead inviting far-right former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023) to give a speech on the opening day. This year, however, relations between the government and agribusiness seem to have improved, amid Lula’s efforts to shore up ties with sectors that have traditionally been more aligned with the right.
