The Cuban government asked the World Trade Organization to rule against the four-decade-long US embargo, leaving the US government with little argument to dismiss the mediation of the multilateral institution on the matter. Indeed, the decision to pursue an end to the embargo at the WTO followed yet another resolution by the United Nations General Assembly (the sixteenth consecutive one) against the US stance.
