Panama | Noriega hospitalized. On 5 February Panama’s former military ruler Manuel Noriega (1983-1989), was taken from his jail cell in the high-security Renacer prison to a hospital in the capital, Panama City, after suffering "hypertension with a possibility of a stroke", according to a police statement. Noriega, 77, had returned to Panama on 11 December to serve three concurrent 20-year prison sentences for the murder of political opponents during his regime.
