Security policy under the PRI

President Felipe Calderón of Mexico will leave office on 31 November next primarily remembered, and judged, for his all-out ‘war’ against drug trafficking gangs and the over 55,000 people killed in the accompanying brutality and rampant impunity. How his successor plans to deal with this legacy is still rather sketchy, though all the signs so far suggest that there will be no radical change to the strategy.
