Venezuela’s foreign currency crisis is manifesting itself in ever more dramatic ways. Supermarket shortages of basic consumer goods like toilet paper made international headlines in 2013. In the latest saga, some of the world’s biggest airlines have temporarily scaled back operations in the country, complaining that the Venezuelan authorities owe them billions in accumulated foreign exchange debts.
