NICARAGUA: Constitutional reform takes effect

As expected the national legislature, which is controlled by President Daniel Ortega’s Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN), last month ratified Ortega’s constitutional reform package, in a second reading. This means that the reform, which strikes out the ban on indefinite presidential re-election and enhances the role of the military, is now ready to take effect.
