POLITICS & SECURITY: The military give Santos successive headaches

As if Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos did not have enough on his plate - with the May re-election campaign on one side and the ongoing peace talks with the country’s main guerilla group, Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc), on the other - two successive scandals involving the military have rocked the government. President Santos acted swiftly to remove those implicated from their posts, but it is not yet clear whether this will be enough to stop the scandals infecting both the elections and the peace talks.
