PARAGUAY: Cocaine processing moves across the border
On 8 February Paraguay’s antidrugs agency, Senad, raided a cocaine-processing laboratory in Toro Pochy, about 6 kilometres from the Bolivian border in the department of Alto Paraguay. It had a clandestine airstrip and a large depot of precursor chemicals; Senad reckons that it had the capacity to process about a tonne of cocaine per month. This was the third such lab located in just over 12 months. In January 2013 one was found in Ciudad del Este (Alto Paraná), facing Foz do Iguaçu just across the Brazilian border. In February another was found in Pedro Juan Caballero, capital of the northeastern border department of Amambay.
