BRAZIL: Brazil’s ‘kid glove’ treatment of Venezuela

The left-leaning Brazilian government led by President Dilma Rousseff has been criticised by the country’s mainstream conservative press for tip-toeing around the situation in Venezuela. Brazil remains publicly supportive of the democratically elected government of President Nicolás Maduro and Rousseff has been clear, as effective leader of both the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) and the Union of South American Nations (Unasur), that the region will not contemplate any rupture of the institutional order.
