DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: SFM corruption scandal a test for Medina

A corruption scandal involving the mayor of San Francisco de Macorís (SFM) is making headlines in the Dominican Republic (DR). It is the first case of alleged official corruption to emerge since President Danilo Medina took office in 2012. Given one of Medina’s key pledges was to tackle official corruption [RC-12-09], the authorities’ handling of the case is likely to attract considerable public scrutiny.
