It’s a wonderful time to be a lazy student in Argentina. In large parts of the country, such as the provinces of Buenos Aires and Chubut, classes have not resumed since the end of the summer holidays almost two weeks ago. In a further 13 other provinces, pupils have returned to school only to find their studies interrupted by 72-hour walkouts by teachers. Though salary demands vary, a 30% hike is the minimum demanded by teachers. In Buenos Aires, the teaching union has just rejected the offer of a 30.9% increase.
