DIPLOMACY: Relations with Brazil back under strain
In early March, Marcelo Soza, former Bolivian prosecutor, fled to Brazil where he is now requesting asylum. The case, which is politically sensitive for President Evo Morales (Soza was in charge of investigating the-as-yet unresolved April 2009 alleged presidential assassination plot), is yet another bone of contention in bilateral relations, which have yet to recover from a spat last year triggered by the September 2013 escape from to Brazil of the Bolivian former senator Roger Pinto, who was smuggled out of the Brazilian embassy in La Paz and taken across the country in a diplomatic car by the commercial attaché.
