Johnson’s visit to Mexico

The US Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Jonhson conducted a two-day official visit to Mexico on 19-20 March. That the visit came just a month after Mexico’s authorities managed to capture ‘the world’s most wanted criminal’, Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán Loera sparked speculation that Johnson would try to push for El Chapo’s extradition to the US. However, in a significant vote of confidence in the government led by President Enrique Peña Nieto, and Mexican judiciary, Johnson said the US government was confident that the Mexican justice system would prosecute Guzmán.
