The Salvadorean government is investigating infiltration of the armed forces (FAES) and the national police force (PNC) by mara street gang members. The justice & public security minister, Ricardo Perdomo, confirmed as much this week after the military college revealed that an army cadet had been identified as an active member of a mara gang investigated by the attorney general’s office for murdering another gang member late last year.
