Senator Vital do Rego, of the government-allied Partido do Movimento Democrático Brasileiro (PMDB), is going to be a busy man over the next few months. Already the president of the senate-led inquiry [CPI] into allegations of corruption and mismanagement at Petrobras, the state oil company, Do Rego was elected on 28 May as the president of the mixed congressional inquiry. The vote was a disappointment for the government’s opponents, who expect the mixed congressional inquiry to make life difficult for President Dilma Rousseff.
