DOMINICAN REPUBLIC | Relief for some children of undocumented Haitians. On 21 May the senate gave final approval to a law which eased the effect of a controversial September 2013 ruling by the constitutional court (TC) that children of non-resident foreign nationals born in the country before 2010 do not have the right to citizenship. This ruling mainly affects the children of illegal Haitian immigrants. The new law stipulates that those without proper documentation but able to prove that they were born in the country will have a 90-day period to register for regular immigrant status, after which, following two years of residence, they may apply for full citizenship.
