Osorio Chong paints a positive picture before the senate

In his latest appearance before Mexico’s senate to present the progress made by Enrique Peña Nieto administration on the security front, Interior Minister Miguel Angel Osorio Chong was keen to show that the federal government’s security strategy is succeeding in reducing violence and criminality across the country. Osorio Chong was particularly keen to show that there is solid evidence of a reduction in crimes such as extortion and kidnapping - a key electoral pledge. Whether this is the case remains highly disputed.
