ARGENTINA: Fernández creates new Ministry of Thought
Argentina’s President Cristina Fernández issued a decree last week creating a new strategic secretary for national thought under the aegis of the culture ministry. The opposition pounced on the decision. The presidential candidate for the Unión Cívica Radical (UCR), Ernesto Sanz, quipped that 11 years after Kirchnerismo came to power in Argentina and with just 18 months to go until presidential elections it was a bit late in the day to appoint someone to define the political movement’s ideological convictions and high time a successor was groomed.
