PARAGUAY: Paraguay hosts successful OAS summit

Less than two years after it was threatened with suspension from the main hemispheric political forum in the wake of the political crisis triggered by the impeachment of then-president Fernando Lugo (2008-2012), Paraguay cemented its rehabilitated political regional standing by successfully hosting the 44th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS). That the Assembly managed to deliver some positive results, particularly in the area of human rights, should also earn the government of President Horacio Cartes political credit across the region.
