POLITICS: Why Correa feels he must run again

The leader of the right-wing opposition Movimiento Creo Creando Oportunidades, Guillermo Lasso, would win a presidential contest in which President Rafael Correa was barred from taking part, a national opinion survey published in June by Cedatos suggested. Lasso topped the survey, which included 10 possible candidates, including prominent politicians within the ruling Alianza País (AP). The results of the survey will confirm Correa in his impression that reforming the constitution to allow indefinite re-election is essential in order to guarantee the survival of his ‘Citizens’ Revolution’.
