BRAZIL | Odebrecht accused of exploiting workers. Rafael de Araújo Gomes, a prosecutor in the Araquara Labour Court in São Paulo state, is going after a big fish. On 13 June he filed charges against Grupo Odebrecht, Brazil’s biggest construction company, accusing it of imposing “near slavery conditions” on some of its workers on a project in Angola. The prosecutor is seeking to impose a R$500m (US$226.8m) fine for “moral damages”.
