The ruling centre-left Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD) of President Danilo Medina lost its main political ally this month after the centre-right Partido Reformista Social Cristiano (PRSC) announced its withdrawal from the alliance forged with the PLD ahead of the 2012 general elections.
