Record remittances to Central America
A new report by the Inter-American Development Bank’s Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) has found that remittances sent by migrant workers from Central America and the Caribbean back to their home countries strongly recovered in 2013 after a few years of stagnant growth. This is in contrast with the still tentative growth in remittances observed in both Mexico and South America. In the specific case of Central America, remittance inflows have now surpassed the peak observed prior to the 2008-2009 global economic crisis.
