ENERGY: Top of the world

Uruguay will soon be flying the kite for Latin America. According to a study conducted by the energy consultants SEG Ingeniería, Uruguay will lead the world in terms of wind power by 2016. The firm, which is the largest wind developer in the country, argues in its study that Uruguay will see 33% of its energy needs satisfied by wind power by 2016, when wind farms under construction (there are currently 23 projects at different stages of development) will bring energy production from wind power up to 1,200MW.
