Steps forward for LGBTI rights in the Andean
Last month the United Nations (UN) rolled out its ‘Free and Equal’ campaign, the first global Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersexed (LGBTI) rights initiative, in Peru, the second country in the Andean sub-region to see the launch of the campaign (it was launched in Ecuador in November 2013). With marches taking place across the Andean in support of LGBTI rights as part of the 28 June Gay Pride celebrations, civil society activists point to recent steps forward in the sub-region.
