PARAGUAY: Spurt of diversified activity by the EPP

A spurt of activity by the guerrillas of the Ejército del Pueblo Paraguayo (EPP) in July, which included attacks on infrastructure, the abduction of a police officer and the ambush of a police vehicle has led to much speculation in political and media circles about whether this group is escalating its activities to a new level, fuelled by funding from recent ransoms.
