Development: On 30 August El Salvador’s main street gangs, Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) and Mara-18 (M-18), issued a joint press communiqué announcing that they had resumed a truce as of 24 August aimed at reducing violence in the country, which has one of the highest homicide rates in the world.
