Suriname’s Bouterse pleads guilty

Dino Bouterse, the 41-year-old son of Suriname’s President Desi Bouterse, pleaded guilty to the joint charge of drug trafficking and possession of a light anti-tank weapon as well as to a separate international terrorism offence in a US federal court in New York, on 29 August. Dino Bouterse is scheduled to be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison on 6 January next year, just four months before Suriname stages general elections.
