The last of Humala’s strongmen exits

One of President Ollanta Humala’s longest serving cabinet ministers, Luis Miguel Castilla, resigned from the ministry of finance (MEF) on 14 September. While the official reason given was the catchall phrase, ‘personal motives’, Castilla had been under mounting pressure over the economic slowdown. There was also some suspicion that his departure was linked to yet another corruption scandal in the government.
