ARGENTINA: New central bank president seeks to calm

Under the administration of President Cristina Fernández, Argentine government officials are not renowned for their diplomatic skills. But Alejandro Vanoli, the new central bank president who took over last week following the sudden resignation of Juan Carlos Fábrega, has so far impressed Argentina’s bankers with his emollient tone. Among his initial moves is a promise not to devalue the Argentine peso.
