ECONOMY: Struggling with the slowdown

Chile’s central bank (BCCH) released yet more disappointing growth figures in October. Together with political unrest on various fronts and ongoing public fears about terrorism following bomb blasts attributed to anarchists in September [RBS-14-09], the slowdown is having a palpable effect on President Michelle Bachelet’s popularity, which has fallen to its lowest point since her leftist Nueva Mayoría government took office in March for a four-year term.
