Institutional tension mounts in Colombia over ‘Timochenko’

Development: On 16 October Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos firmly rebuffed a move by the prosecutor general, Alejandro Ordóñez, to demand that he provide an explanation for his decision to twice grant safe passage to the leader of the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc), ‘Timochenko’ (Rodrigo Londoño Echeverri), to travel to Cuba to participate in the government’s peace talks with the Farc.
