BRAZIL | Clashes in Rio favelas. On 29 September Rio police launched a sweep of the Rocinha slum district, Operação Genesias, to carry out 50 arrest warrants against suspected drug traffickers still operating there. They ran into considerable resistance, including a volley of gunfire that struck a police helicopter. Over the following week police tracked down and arrested two men believed to have taken part in the attack on the helicopter.
