Brazil: On 12 November US State Department spokesperson, Jen Psaki, said that the US government was hopeful that US-Brazil relations will now improve. In a daily press briefing, Psaki said that US Secretary of State John Kerry “very much feels that with the recent election in Brazil…he’s hopeful we can really move the relationship forward". Psaki noted that “We’ve had some disagreements over the past year or so – there’s no secret about that. But Brazil remains an important partner. He’s hopeful to become more engaged, more and more engaged in our relationship there. And certainly I expect that when there’s a meeting at the G20, they’ll discuss the relationship moving forward”. Bilateral relations have yet to recover from the spat caused by the revelations that he US National Security Agency (NSA) was spying on Brazilian government officials, as made public by the whistleblower Edward Snowden last year.
