MEXICO-US: Mexicans benefit most from Obama’s executive actions
The executive action taken by US President Barack Obama on 20 November will make about 3.9m unauthorised immigrants to the US — 35% of the estimated total — eligible for deportation relief, and two-thirds of the beneficiaries will be from Mexico, according to estimates released by Pew Research. The assessment makes it clear that this relief does not entail the opportunity to obtain permanent residency or citizenship, which only the opposition-dominated congress has the authority to grant.
