CHILE: Details of new anti-terrorist law emerge

The government of President Michelle Bachelet has decided to start releasing details of its proposed changes to the anti-terrorist legislation inherited from the dictatorship led by General Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990). Because the initiative involves changes in the penal code and other laws, the government now reckons that it may take about six months before the bill has cleared congress. Even this may prove optimistic, given a supreme court ruling that has drawn attention to a new set of legal hurdles.
