Decisions taken by the Dominican Republic (DR)’s constitutional court (TC) continue to leave the country at odds with the international community. Amid the ongoing concerns that last year’s TC ruling over the right to claim Dominican nationality [RC-14-10] undermines migrants’ rights, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (CorteIDH) has issued a resolution condemning the DR for its treatment of Haitian migrants. The TC has responded by issuing another highly controversial ruling that effectively allows the country to ignore the CorteIDH altogether. With the government led by President Danilo Medina now mulling the possibility of leaving the Inter-American Human Rights System altogether, international concerns about the DR have gone up another notch.
