Peru and Ecuador move to combat human trafficking

Ecuador and Peru have newly agreed a ‘road map’ to combat human trafficking. Both countries are source, transit and destination countries for sex trafficking and forced labour and the move, which follows a framework deal inked in 2013, comes as the latest (20 June 2014) US State Department Trafficking in Persons report (TPR) hailed progress in efforts, particularly in Ecuador (and to a lesser extent in Peru) – against the crimes, albeit while flagging up room for further improvement (see sidebar).
