President Tabaré Vázquez was driven away from his inauguration in the legislative assembly on 1 March in a 1951 Fordson truck, outdoing his predecessor, José Mujica, who arrived at the ceremony in his comparatively modern 1987 Volkswagen Beetle. It was the former vintage that prevailed in Vázquez’s cabinet appointments. Eleven of his 14 ministers were born before the truck was constructed 64 years ago.
