The Penta scandal is claiming prominent victims in both the political and the business world. Ernesto Silva, the president of the ultra-conservative Unión Demócrata Independiente (UDI), resigned over the illegal campaign-finance scandal on 11 March. The non-metallic mining giant, Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile (SQM), announced the dismissal of its CEO, Patricio Contesse González, in relation to the Penta corruption case five days later.
