SCJN cleans up its act

Mexico’s human rights record has come under heavy international scrutiny recently. After the United Nations (UN) Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED) censured the country for its failure to address the problem in the wake of the September 2014 Iguala disappearances [RM-15-03], Mexico recently was also slammed by the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture for its failings in this area. The supreme court (SCJN) has responded by issuing two landmark rulings that seek to rectify some of these failings.
