Eclac lowers growth forecast to 6%: The latest Eclac report predicts that Panama will grow by 6% in 2015, down one percentage point from its previous forecast. Growth in 2014 slowed to 6.2%. According to a report filed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on its recent fact-finding mission to the country, the slowdown was due to a slower pace of public investment, continued weaknesses in the Colón Free Zone and delays in the expansion of the Panama Canal. Still, at 6% Panama’s growth is forecast to be the greatest in the region.
