HAITI: Haiti’s electoral process kicks off

Last month Haiti’s President Michel Martelly issued a decree calling long-delayed legislative and local elections as well as the presidential elections due this year, from which he is constitutionally barred from running. The move, which has finally set the electoral process in motion and been hailed by the international community, comes as the government has expressed renewed security concerns ahead of the vote. With no credible pre-electoral surveys yet released, the race remains wide open.
