A record fine: Chile’s environmental regulator (SMA) slapped a C$7.62bn (US$11.9m) fine on the Japanese-owned mining company, SCM Minera Lumina Copper Chile (MLCC), for violating environmental regulations at its Caserones copper mine, located in the northern Atacama Region, 9km from the border with Argentina.
