Mining industry lashed by organised crime

The government led by President Enrique Peña Nieto is under mounting pressure to provide better protection for companies working in the oil and mining industries in Mexico. The economy ministry, the federal police (PF) and mining companies operating in Mexico held round tables in April to discuss the security threat posed by organised crime to the sector in some states a week after one of the biggest gold heists in history from a mine owned by the Canadian firm, McEwen Mining Inc, in the northern state of Sinaloa.
