Over the past month there have been two developments in Colombia with a direct bearing on the understanding of how the hemispheric traffic in cocaine has been evolving and probably on the outcome of the peace negotiations between the government and the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (
Farc). The first is the emergence of data which suggest that Colombia may have returned to its position as the leading producer of coca and cocaine.
