MEXICO: ‘Military’ might of CJNG in perspective

The downing of an army helicopter by the Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) on 1 May in Jalisco has led to much discussion of the ‘military’ might of that organisation, including the revival of reports that its members have been receiving training from the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) guerrillas in Colombia and others. Little of this is new, and much is uncorroborated.
