President Juan Manuel Santos made a series of significant gestures to the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) over the last week with a view to expediting the peace talks in Cuba, but they had nothing like the impact of a series of military bombing raids, which have claimed the lives of some 40 guerrillas. The Farc promptly abandoned the indefinite unilateral ceasefire it declared last December.
