Renan Calheiros, the president of the federal senate, said on 15 July that the upper chamber was studying what kind of lawsuit it could file against the federal police at the supreme court over the latest searches carried out by law enforcement officers as part of the embezzlement investigation into the state-owned energy company Petrobras.
