US removes Cuba from human trafficking black-list

Argentina: On 24 July the World Trade Organisation (TWO) issued a panel report in the case brought by Argentina against the US over its import ban on animals and beef, a ban triggered by a 2001 outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease. Argentina had sought talks with the US over the issue in August 2012, before calling for a formal dispute panel in December 2012. Australia, Brazil, China, the European Union, India and South Korea later joined as third parties. The WTO panel upheld most of Argentina’s claims regarding the safety of fresh beef from northern Argentina and its claims about the safety of animals, meat and other animal products from Patagonia. In a statement, the WTO said that the US actions were inconsistent and discriminated against Argentina compared with countries with similar conditions.
